Fig compote using fresh figs
Fig compote is made using fresh figs, takes only a few minutes to prepare and can be enjoyed alongside either sweet or savoury dishes.

- 500 g fresh figs
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla essence
- 1 cinnamon stick
Cut the figs in half. Scoop out the centres and place in a small saucepan.
Add the lemon juice, vanilla extract (or vanilla essence) and cinnamon stick.
Heat gently for around 5 minutes, stirring regularly.
Leave to cool.
Remove the cinnamon stick and transfer to a small jar.
Place in the fridge to chill before serving.
