I'm Judith and I created Veggie Ideas out of a love of good food and home cooking. While I focus on vegetarian recipes, meat eaters, flexitarians and anyone who loves good food will find something here to enjoy.
I am a fan of simple recipes. I don't like long lists of ingredients or complicated processes and aim to share recipes which are easy to follow.
I have been making some of these delicious recipes over many years and enjoy experimenting with new ideas too, most of which turn out well but occasionally not so well 😁
Many years ago I started to reduce the amount of meat in my diet and include more plant based protein and this continued until meat disappeared from my diet altogether. There are so many alternatives, many of which are lower in fat, cheaper or simply more convenient as they keep longer.
I think homemade foods are the best. Even the most simple dishes are far better than their mass produced equivalents. Many bought cakes, biscuits and preserves contain ingredients you may not recognise. But by making your own, you will know exactly what you are eating.
I'm English and a big fan of British baking recipes. Some of my childhood favourites include Bakewell tart, vanilla slices, fruit filled Eccles cakes, tangy lemon drizzle cake, fruit crumble, hot cross buns, golden brandy snaps, Christmas cake and mince pies. I have put together a collection of recipes for English cakes, biscuits and desserts for you to try at home.
When it comes to cooking main dishes I like to make the most of whole foods. I make lots of meals using beans, lentils, nuts, eggs and cheese. Look out for tasty recipes including soups, chilli dishes, quiches, bean burgers and nut roasts.
I'm not a fan of fake meats. In fact, the only fake meat you will see on this site is chocolate salami 😂 (which is definitely worth a try).
Like many people I too have busy days with not much time to cook. Many of my recipes such as three bean chilli, lentil and spinach dahl and falafel can be prepared ahead of time and in bulk helping you to enjoy homemade meals even on busy days. I include make-ahead instructions and freezing instructions where appropriate.
So, whether you are looking to eat more homemade foods, explore vegetarian cooking or simply bake a cake from scratch you may find something here to tempt you.
If you try any of my recipes please feel free to leave a comment. You could also add a photo too! 🙂
